ModSnob

I’m a busy Dude.

So yeah, a year later I finally get to straightening things up in here. way to go.

I am tattooing full time now, so I probably won’t have time for this. no big loss to y’all, but whatevs. It’s been fun. I’ll probably be around when you least expect it.

emeraldgreene:My 3 month experiment with a nose ring (my second attempt at a nose piercing). It didn’t work out well, at all. I got this huge bump on top of the hole, it was disgusting. Even switching to a stud didn’t help and then I was absentmindedly touching my face and the stud got caught on my shirt and yanked it halfway out. It wouldn’t go back in so I pulled it out. Nothing made the bump go down except for salicylic acid in Neutrogena’s “Fight & Fade” gel. Never. Again. So incredibly painful. Anyone who says getting their nose pierced doesn’t hurt is lying.

Quite often the bump seems to appear when people wear foundation near a healing piercing. I’m not saying that’s what you did, but that is a very common cause of it. other times it ends up being like a pimple on the skin inside the piercing, which due to jewelry being there has difficulty draining. A hoop allows for easier drainage, so switching to a stud would exacerbate the problem…
Along with the foundation issue, we (people) use many products that have very small particles that can become trapped in a nostril piercing, leading to that bump as well.
Sucks that you had bad luck twice w/ nose piercing…

question about my labret (lip peircing)

arielleobrien:

yeahh; my lip piercing (labret) and this morning my lip had scabbed over my stud and it’s made a mini crater in my lip. I think the crater part is cause maybe to stud is to short, I dunno. But I fear that it might be infected because every so often theres a yellow/white puss (eeewwww!) I tried to google it and found nothing, I was wondering if any of you knew. The scabbing and the puss, is that normal when a lip piercing is healing?

Yellow / white discharge can

be a normal part of healing…

how long have you had his pierced? is said “crater” on the inside of your or outside of your lip? is the tissue in the “crater” raw, or just like the surrounding tissue? any Bruising?

sorry to answer a question with a question, but more info is needed.

from what you’ve said, w/o any other info, It is quite possible that the jewelry is too short.

I’m seriously considering getting a microdermal piercing.

deannamac:

Coming from a girl who has no piercings or tattoos whatsoever, I can’t tell if I’m crazy or not.

Those bitches are permanent.

Semipermanent. Definitely much more of a commitment than a lobe piercing, but way less than a tattoo. A good piercer should be able to remove them with little or no extra scarring - leaving only the actual piercing hole as a scar.

Many companies make models with no holes for tissue to grow through, which facilitates easier removal. With god placement, it won’t even affect the rejection rate.

I’d suggest them for anyone who is thinking of surface piercings. much less scarring, & much better success rate.

Oh no, tell the faint hearted to look away! I’m not going to bash the girl in the photo (aside from the ear neglect, she’s cute!) instead I’ll use it as a learning tool for my followers.
1. If your ears are thin or thinning, don’t wear weights even for a short amount of time. Thinning ears need to be downsized so they can relax.
2. If your ears aren’t the same color as the rest of your skin, they aren’t getting very good circulation. Again, please downsize.
3. If your ears have dry patches, give them a nice oily massage. Emu oil is my favorite, jojoba or vitamin E oil works for the modded vegans out there. Oil will moisturize lobes, massaging will break down scar tissue and help blood circulate. Win, win!
(Her ears are 48mm for those who are wondering)

Yup.

Format Change (tl; dr - amirite?)

Hello everyone.

If you’re wondering about my re-reblogging:

I figure it’s time for a little change. I will be separating My Portfolio from my “advice” Because I am sure it irritates the shit out of some of you, but others seem to enjoy it.

Invasiveadornments will be my portfolio.

ModSnob will be for my “advice”.

BTW that title is intended as a joke, it is something I’ve been called a few times, so I might as well embrace it.

Honestly, deep down inside I am not @ all a snob. I Love Body Modification in all its forms, regardless of the methods used to obtain it, or how “bad” it looks. The only people I Ever “look down upon” are “professionals” that are not following basic precautions/procedures. That does not mean “Those who don’t do things my way” - I personally would never use forceps unless absolutely necessary, but most of my friends who are piercers do, & they are definitely competent piercers. It just truly saddens me the amount of horrible misinformation there is out there, so I’m trying to do my little part to counteract it.

I will be reblogging all the “advice” to ModSnob, then deleting it from Invasiveadornments. Enjoy the tiny jump in Tumblarity you might get. :D

So, If you enjoy the snark that sometimes actually has some constructive advice thrown in, stay right here. If you are following for pics of good Mods & the occasional mediocre painting, head over to Invasive Adornments!

Thanks for your patience, & sorry if this inconveniences any of you.

I really want my nipples pierced. I’ve been thinking about it, saw and read what could happen if it gets infected………..but I really want them done :(

If you take care of them, they most likely won’t get infected… true infections are actually very rare in professional piercings

did i mention when i shove the nose ring back in it hurts worse than when i got it pierced.

marzyyy:

it just took me like 15 minutes to get it through.

If you are wearing a nose bone, you are probably doing almost as much (sometimes more) damage each time you change it as was done to pierce it.

If not, maybe the curve on the nose screw is a little tight for you… Any competent piercer should be able to fix that for you. I find giving it a slightly longer tail makes it easier for people to change on their own.

Other variables:

  • If it is on your non-dominant side (Left nostril on a right handed person) It will be harder to come @ the piercing from a comfortable angle, making it harder to make a smooth transition.
  • If it is not healed fully, that could be the problem as well.
  • W/ nose screws: there is a difference between a left & right handed bend. many piercers don’t know that, & most jewelry stores don’t care to know that. The proper bends will make things easier, & thereby less painful. A good piercer will know the difference & can help you w/ that.

But I just couldn’t do something I don’t love day in and day out.
So I’m in this situation where there are so many things I want to do.
Piercing artist, cosmetologist, model, photographer, A&R agent, fashion designer, interior designer..It’s not like I can do all of it.

Don’t waste your time w/ Piercing. Very little money in it. If it’s not your Passion, it’s not worth it.

Don’t get me wrong - I Love it - but so far, I’ve always had to have a second job. The best way to “make it” is to own a very busy shop, or to get good/lucky enough to get in a shop that pays a decent salary instead of commission - which is very rare.

Well like I said, there are a lot of things I want to do, I wouldn’t mind having a second job.
I’m going to be a piercing artist regardless of how much money I make.
I want to own my own shop one day.

That’s Awesome. I hope it all works out for you. The world needs more good “Renaissance People”!
